Installation - technical - email

In hosted installations, you will need to create email accounts for each user that can be referenced by the applicable module when sending emails through the built-in email system.

Create the needed email accounts according to the mechanisms provided by your host.

Use your email address in your Home page setup, tab [EMail info]. Or you can use the Email Reply to feature explained below.

Setting up email account information

1. Log in as administrator.

2. In the Admin module, tab [Settings], under Section 2 - Property settings, complete the various email parameters:

EMailPath: mail.yourdomain.com
EmailPort: 25
EMailSendusing: 2
EMailUseReplyTo: Y (See
How to Use your preferred Reply To name below) or N if you're OK with the email name provided through the set up in the host's email manager
EMailUserName: postmaster@yourdomain.com
EMailPassword: {password for your email account}
EMailAuthenticate: 1

Scroll down to 3. Some examples for more information

If you are using the EMailUseReplyTo feature, you can use the email address of your choice, provided you have set up an email address in the email manager above with the exact same name portion. More on this follows:

The EMailUseReplyTo feature - how to Use your preferred Reply To name

Assume that your email manager like above is mail.qartic.com and that you have set up an email account in that manager with the address jjohnson@qartic.com but you want people to reply to jjohnson@articdomains.com for emails sent from the module.

1. Set up the user account in the email manager like we show above with that exact user name, like this: jjohnson, so that the name would be jjohnson@qartic.com.

2. In your Home page, tab [Email info], add the email address, jjohnson@articdomains.com. Note that the name portion must exactly match the name portion of user account in the email manager. IOW, they both must be "jjohnson", regardless of the domain portion.

3. When you send an email, it will send it out through the host's email server shown above - in this example that's mail.qartic.com and the email address will be jjohnson@qartic.com but the module will add a Reply To field to the email with your preferred address of jjohnson@articdomains.com.

4. When a recipient wants to reply to your email and clicks the "Reply" button on their email, it will use the jjohnson@qartic.com email address.

3. Some examples:

SmarterASP.net

SmarterASP.net does not provide email support for the trial account. However, if you set up a paid hosting account with them, they will automatically create one email account. You can then add as many accounts allowed by the plan you purchase.

When you've purchased a hosting plan from SmarterASP.net, you should also have set up a domain. The below example assumes a domain named "mysmarterdomain.com":

a. From the [Hosting Control Panel] tab, click [Email Manager].

b. Under Domain Name Email, on the row containing your domain name, click the lock icon under the Manage column.

c. A default User named postmaster@mysmarterdomain.com (or whatever your domain name is) will have been automatically created.

d. Click the Edit icon (paper and pencil) on the right-side of that row to bring up the editor.

e. Add a first and last name and password and click [Save].

Use that information in QwikTeam Admin module, tab [Settings], Section 2 - Property settings, email parameters:

EMailAuthenticate: 1
EMailPassword: {the password you added in e. above for your email account}
EMailPath: mail.mysmarterdomain.com (or whatever yours is)
EMailPort: 25 (others might be suggested by SmarterASP documentation or their tech support)
EMailSendusing: 2
EMailUseReplyTo: Y (See How to Use your preferred Reply To name below) or N if you're OK with the email name provided through the set up in the host's email manager
EMailUserName: postmaster@mysmarterdomain.com
EMailUseSSL: N (other settings may be suggested by SmarterASP documentation or their tech support
